Week 3: Social Networking: I see the point but....
I am a member of Facebook and LinkedIn, but never use either of them. It's a matter of time--there's not enough! I do see where it would be beneficial for libraries and educational institutions to use these social networks because of the amount of people that could be reached. But again it's a matter of not having enough time to dedicate to the set-up and up keep of such sites.
Week 2: Setting up a RSS reader
Setting up the RSS feeds was fun. I subscribed to Academic Libraries, Building Academic Libraries 2.0, Academic Library Article--Going Green @your library, The Kept-Up Academic Library, and Podcast-Academic library-Library beat. It was actually quite easy for me to find several things that interested me. The hard part was only choosing five...lol! I choose those five feeds because they are some of my favorite things...
Week 1: Getting Started
I created a blog "7407" in 2007 but I did not keep it up.
In 2007, I chaired a task force which used 7 of the Web 2.0 activities as part of a 7 week summer project for all library faculty and staff called "7407". The idea was to provide the opportunity to learn about these new approaches and to create a supportive environment while doing so. Some of the ones we used were blogs, RSS feeds, Flickr, and del.icio.us. Everyone who completed the 7 activities received a certificate that was presented at a closing celebration.
